About Denaria

The value of cash

Cash remains a fundamental pillar of the payments system in Chile. Over 90% of Chileans keep it in their wallet, using it especially for amounts under $5,000 at street markets, small businesses, and public transportation. It is an accessible, anonymous means of payment, resilient to technology outages, and essential for many sectors of the population.

At Denaria Chile, we promote the defense of cash as a complementary option to digital means.

Cash is also inclusion

Cash protects diversity.

We do not seek to replace or resist technological progress, but to ensure the protection of the right to its use, so that no one is left out of the system. Because cash fosters the inclusion of older adults, migrants, informal workers, entrepreneurs, and millions of people who live their economy in a simple, everyday way.

According to the Central Bank, 70% of Chileans would be affected if they could not pay in cash and, although digital payments are a great tool, this form of payment remains the second most used in Chile, with 31% of daily transactions.

In Chile, 1.5 million people do not have internet access, more than 2 million are unbanked, and 37% of those who have Cuenta RUT cannot make electronic transfers. In addition, according to the INE methodology, 13% of Chile’s population lives in rural areas. However, using the OCDE definition, this rises to over 30%. A large part of that population does not have access to connectivity and therefore to digital payments.

Freedom
is also in how you pay

Chile is also a country that often suffers natural disasters and, in those cases, the use of cash is key for the country to keep operating.

At Denaria, we believe that a fair payment system is one that coexists with a diversity of options. We promote a society where each person can choose how to pay, according to their needs and realities.

Because when there are options for everyone,
there is inclusion.
